Job Description

Title:

Weekend School Teacher (Quran, Arabic and/or Islamic Religious Studies)

Reports to: Weekend School Principal

Role Purpose:

The Quranic, Arabic, and Islamic Subjects teacher provides Quran, Arabic Language, and Islamic Studies instruction to students in a single or multiple grade ranging from children, and youth to adults. The teacher uses education department approved curriculum. He/she creates an educational atmosphere where students are granted the opportunity to fulfil their potential of becoming knowledgeable and productive Muslims.

Key Accountabilities & Activities

  • Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Plans lessons based on education department approved curriculum and coordinates with other instructional staff.
  • Develops a deep knowledge of the various curricula and explores the best ways in which to deliver content to the students.
  • Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Sets and implements rules of discipline in accordance with ISB policies and the Education Department directives.
  • Ensures the safety of students while providing them with a care-giving and nurturing atmosphere.
  • Sets clear targets and goals for teaching the Islamic values on a weekly basis and works with staff to extend the implementation with in the classroom environment
  • Organizes age appropriate extra-curricular activities related to the Islamic events and holidays.
  • Completes all grading, creates weekly lesson plans and report cards, and conducts parent conferences in a timely manner when applicable.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and staff on a regular basis in order to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Supports students and parents with alternate strategies and provides additional assistance with daily assignments and projects.
  • Models spiritual maturity in leading students towards Islam and spiritual growth.
  • Inculcates young students with a sense of respect, order and self-discipline while encouraging them to be innovative and curious.
  • Assumes responsibility for and demonstrates gains in student performance.
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating with others, etc.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
  • Attend teachers training programs as provided by the education department for continued empowerment and keeping up to date with knowledge and education methodologies
  • Suggest improvement to curriculum, policies, and methodologies for consideration by the education department

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with two to four years work experience and/or
    equivalent combination of education, training and experiences required.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office and be able to schedule meeting via MS Outlook
  • Must have proficient knowledge of Arabic, Islamic thought, Quran and the Sunnah
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with students, parents and the community
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Emotional maturity
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable
    to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Forward looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions

Working Environment:

Normal office environment

Work Timings

Part-time, including Sunday mornings throughout the school year
