فَتَعَالَى اللَّـهُ الْمَلِكُ الْحَقُّ ۗ وَلَا تَعْجَلْ بِالْقُرْآنِ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يُقْضَىٰ إِلَيْكَ وَحْيُهُ ۖ وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

“So high [above all] is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur’an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”

The ISBCC ilm programming is meant to follow in the footsteps of our vast and formidable Islamic intellectual tradition. We strive to emulate our tradition’s commitment to: becoming students of both the text (the Qur’an and Sunnah) and the context (the realities and philosophies of our American community); seeking knowledge from both the books and the teachers/scholars of our tradition; seeing learning as happening through all the five senses; and following all the recommend external and internal etiquettes of learning.

Current Courses (Spring 2019)

The ISBCC Quran Program

You can go from not knowing a letter of Arabic to being a qualified Quran teacher in a couple of years by the will of Allah through the ISBCC’s weekly Quran classes:

  • Reading the Quran – Beginner (1 semester class)
  • Reciting the Quran – Intermediate/Advanced (2 semesters class)
  • Teaching the Quran – Advanced (1+ semester seminar)

Course Description

This class is designed to teach beginners how to read Arabic. We will teach the Arabic letters, vowels, basic rules of tajweed (Qur’anic recitation). Students will have weekly opportunities to read in class and practice writing. By the end of the course, they will inshaAllah leave being able to read the Qur’an.

Students must come to class with a notebook and be prepared to take notes.


Starting Sunday, January 20 January 27 (moved because of snow)
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm (weekly on Sundays)

Course Description

This class for advanced and intermediate students will dive into the sciences of Makhaarij and Sifaat, the part of tajweed that focuses on accurate pronunciation of letters and elimination of accents.

Topics covered:

  • Al-Makharij – 5 Articulation Areas (halq, jawf, khayshoom, shafataan, lisaan) and the 17 Articulation Points
  • As-Sifaat – The Qualities of Letters
    • Without opposites (qalqalah, safeer, leen, inhiraf, takreer, tafashee, istitaalah)
    • With opposites (hams/jahr, shiddah/tawassut/rakhawah, isti’laa/istifaal, infitaah/itbaaq, idhlaaq/ismat) 

There will be an emphasis on reciting to the teacher and sharpening one’s own recitation.

Class Expectations: Students must come to class prepared to take notes with their own personal notebook.


Must be able to read Arabic verses of the Quran.

Students who have taken Reading the Quran or Reciting the Quran II are recommended to take this class.

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm (weekly on Thursdays)

The ISBCC Quran School covers the following subjects:

  • Hifz (Quran Memorization)
  • Quranic Arabic
  • Islamic Studies (Fiqh & Aqidah)

Ages 5+ are welcome. There are discounts for families with multiple students or financial need.
