Job Description

Title: ISB School Principal

Position Summary:

The School Principal serves as the educational and administrative leader for the ISB's weekend school (for part-time roles) and afterschool programs (for full time) for grades K–12. The Principal is responsible for maintaining a professional, welcoming, and supportive environment for all families and teachers. Achieving academic excellence is a primary goal, alongside cultivating a healthy Islamic social environment that results in engaging, enjoyable experiences for all students. The Principal will model a collaborative working style, lead the recruiting, hiring, and management of the teaching and administrative staff, and present progress to the Board of Directors or their designated Education Committee, on a regular basis. This position reports to ISB Programs and Office Manager.

Curriculum & Academics:

  • Develop and enhance Islamic and Quranic studies curriculum in alignment with traditional teachings and input from parents, teachers, and ISB leadership.
  • Lead the School team (Vice Principal, teachers, administrative assistant) in planning, organizing, and delivering a curriculum centered on the ISB mission and strong Islamic knowledge.
  • Plan and execute the School Open House, Parent Socials, and 2–3 student competitions per year (e.g., Quran Competition, Spelling Bee, Speech/Religious Presentation), each held in a designated quarter.
  • Develop the yearly school calendar prior to the start of the school year.

Staff Leadership & Development:

  • Recruit, hire, and manage all teaching and administrative staff.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, mentoring, and formal quarterly performance evaluations.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings to ensure curriculum adherence and address emerging issues.

Operations & Administration:

  •  Lead day-to-day school operations, including curriculum needs, student and registration management, budget, space, and supplies.
  • Oversee tuition collection, ensuring accurate record-keeping, payment processing, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain and update the School handbook (policies, expectations, and procedures for teachers, students, and parents).
  • Ensure uniform enforcement of school rules and equitable student discipline.
  • Manage website updates and marketing, and send a monthly parent newsletter.

Parent & Community Engagement:

  • Serve as the primary parent contact and build and lead a Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) representing diverse skills and backgrounds.
  • Lead School-related activities (year-end celebration, Jumu'ah bake sale fundraiser) and parent committee meetings to engage the broader community.
  • Prepare and present quarterly progress reports to an education committee composed of Board members and BOD-recommended appointees.

Qualifications and Skills:

  •  Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in Education, Islamic Studies, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in an educational, school leadership, or community organization role.
  •  Experience working with K–12 students in a school, masjid, or community education setting is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Islamic studies, Quranic education, and traditional Islamic pedagogy.
  •  Prior experience leading or managing staff, volunteers, or an educational team.
  •  Ability to plan and execute school-wide events and competitions from start to finish.
  • Comfortable presenting to senior leadership and boards with clarity and professionalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Skilled at building relationships with parents, community members, and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Deep understanding of and commitment to the ISB’s mission and the values of the Muslim community it serves.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace; experience with student information or registration systems.
