Bismillah. This community list is intended for nonemergencies. If you’re having an emergency, please call your health care provider right away or 911. We’ve limited it for now to folks we’ve had some interaction with. We hope to add to it over time. Organization is alphabetical. We appreciate your feedback on any aspect of the process or providers. Dr Hesham Hamoda, Child Psychiatry. Diagnostic evaluation and medication (no counseling). Available at 3 locations; private practice: Norwood Behavioral Health; BCBS & cash, Whit tier Street Health Center: 617-427-1000. All insurances except Fallon. Boston Children’s Hospital: General line: 617-355-6000. All insurances but pediatrician has to be in the hospital’s network.

Dr Shamaila Khan: Licensed Clinical Psychologist. PhD. English & Urdu. Adults. Available at BMC in Boston. Counseling in all areas, specialty in trauma. 617-414-4238 to schedule. Various insurances accepted, ask. Note: BMC protocol is to book a 40 min GROUP orientation to basic department policies before meeting with her. RIAC (Refugee and Immigrant Assistance Center): Many languages offered. Numerous Muslim and non-Muslim counselors, in Roxbury MA. Open to all. All Mass Health standard plans accepted. 617- 238—2430. Also offices in Lynn & Worchester.

Br Kamal Shaarawy: Clinical psychologist. Decades of individual and family counseling experience. Also a background of Islamic Studies & Engineering from Al-Azhar. Certified Instructor of parenting method “Love & Logic”. English & Arabic. Adults & families. Consults by phone or skype. $50 per hour, charged when you schedule. Types of mental health providers may include:

  • MD / physician / Psychiatrist: Usually focus on prescribing medications and managing them, if needed.
  • PsyD or PhD: Focus on counseling and or research.
  • Clinical psychologist, LMHC, LCSW: Focus on counseling.
  • Life Coach: Different focus and training. Often geared for folks seeking personal optimization, rather than working through deep-seated issues. Ask their focus and limits, if any. Can ask if certified.
