Job Description

Title: Community Engagement Manager

Function: Management

Reports to: BOD & Sr. Mgr. Operations & Administration

Position Summary:

About ISB: The Islamic Society of Boston is over 40 years old and runs the two largest masajid in the Boston area. Our mission is to serve the spiritual, educational, social, and cultural needs of the Boston’s 100,000 strong Muslim community, and our society at large while exemplifying excellence and fostering peace.

About the Role: We’re seeking an engaging, organized, and flexible community engagement manager to help build exceptional programs and services for our community. As a key member of the management team at ISB, the community engagement manager is closely connected with our community, always seeking to understand their needs and forging connections within the Muslim community and with external groups. Program and services can span from spiritual, educational, and interfaith to social, youth, cultural and civic engagement. This is a high profile and rewarding role, with potential for significant leadership development and community service. This position will be reporting Senior Manager - Operations and Administration, with opportunity to work directly with the Board of Directors

Job Description & Responsibilities:

Programs & Services
  • Understand the demographics and needs of the community, dynamics of giving within the community, identify emerging opportunities and trends, and determine marketing methodologies to support fundraising efforts.
  • In collaboration with Imam and Manager, Programs and Collections, identifies and obtains resources required for upcoming community events/programs/fundraising and donation needs, speakers, sponsors, etc.
Marketing and Communication
  • Fully understands and communicates ISB vision, mission, and strategy.
  • Responsible for maintaining ISB’s strong digital profile and executing
    marketing campaigns for all services and programs across multiple channels
    including the website, social media,physical and digital signages/posters, and
    other external marketing channels resulting in enhanced visibility for ISB and
    our programs and services.
  • Publish a regular weekly or monthly newsletter, communications and
    program calendar.
  • Works with subject matter experts, community members, staff, and board
    members to produce marketing and communication content that supports
    the ISB’s programs, mission and brand.
  • Develops and executes focused annual fundraising, outreach, and public
    relations campaigns.
  • Cultivates sponsorship, partnership, and public relations opportunities
    supporting the organizational mission, programs, and services.
  • Manages ISB presence on Google, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp Groups,
    and Mailchimp analytic dashboards; discusses results with the management;
    and provides relevant recommendations.
Community Relations and Fundraising
  • Designs, partners, and executes community and fundraising events.
  • Leads and manages ISB development efforts.
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with potential community donors,
    sustainers, and sponsors, as well as potential corporate & foundation sponsors.
  • Manages interfaith relationships in close collaboration with an Interfaith Committee and the Board of Directors.
  • Helps manage public sector relationships in close collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Conduct in person or virtual meetings with potential major gift donors to seek sponsorships and support.
Community Network Growth
  • Develop and grow our individual donor base.
  • Identifies, builds, and maintains database of potential sponsors, vendors, contractors, partnerships of strategic importance, community professionals, partners organizations, program participants, facilitators, and other stakeholders who are currently engaged or could be potentially engaged in community events, sponsorships, gift giving, fundraising, donation, and community events.
Committee and Volunteer Management
  • Leads/Supports Interfaith, Youth and/or Fundraising committees in
    partnership with the Board.
  • Establishes strong relationships with volunteers and directly supports, guides
    and leads volunteer teams in different community events and projects as
    required.
Other:
  • Respond to or delegate ISB general inquiries, community questions, and media inquiries.
  • Partner with ISB team and Board on major signature events/projects.
  • Identifies potential grant opportunities and supports Senior Manager, Operations and Administration in putting grant applications together to fund ISB programs and services.
  • Provide general facility and administrative support as needed, primarily supporting ISB Cambridge.

Job Qualifications/requirements:

Necessary knowledge, skills and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business related field with 3 years of relevant work experience or Associate’s
    degree in business related field with 5 years of work experience.
  • Experience working with diverse relevant communities and understanding of their needs.
  • Highly collaborative with an open communications style and positive, flexible attitude
  • Ability to oversee and manage assigned budgets.
  • Proven marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience.
  • Strong customer-centric, problem solving, detail-oriented, and collaborative approach.
  • Excels at operating in a fast pace, multi-tasking, and engaging community environment.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Google Workspace, Office. Salesforce CRM experience
    is a plus.
  • Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, organizing, and planning skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards, respect for confidentiality
    and privacy of database files, web statistics, and other sensitive data.
  • High comfort level working in a diverse environment.

Work Conditions
  • Working Environment: Normal office environment, required to work 3 days in ISB Cambridge masjid and 2 days in ISB Roxbury masjid.
  • Work Timings: Full time position, 40 hours per week. Based on community activities, evening, weekend and/or holiday (Eids) timings would be needed.
