In describing the seven categories of people whom Allah will give them His Shade of His Throne on the Day of Judgment, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “a youth who grew up with the worship of Allah; a person whose heart is attached to the mosques.” [Al-Bukhari, Muslim]
A program for 12-16 year olds, ARKanum seeks to:
- Attach its youth to the masjid
- Build long-lasting friendships among its youth (i.e. an environment of good companionship)
- Grow the young people’s relationship with Allah and learn about Islam
- Teach useful life skills to its youth
ARKanum comprises over 60 teens who are mentored on a weekly basis by nearly 10 college students and young adults. Divided into a winter session (Jan-April), a spring session (May-July), and a Fall session (Sept – Dec), the ARKanum group – teens and mentors – meet collectively on Saturdays from 5-9 pm. Each session includes a religious lecture, a fun group activity that builds close bonds, and a project/workshop that grows life skills. On a monthly basis, the group also takes field trips, prays qiyam or goes on retreats in nature. Once a year, the group takes an international trip to learn about our Islamic heritage.
