The Common Word Cafe first opened its doors in April 2009. The cafe hours are Fridays 10am-10pm, Saturdays 10am-7pm and Sundays 10am-4pm. The cafe can comfortably sit 84 people and is equipped with comfortable sofas, large windows, built-in speakers, a projector, a projector screen and free wi-fi.
The cafe offers a wide selection of imported organic coffee, organic tea, pastries, cookies and drinks. The cafe also offers a selection of four sandwiches: turkey, chicken, tuna and vegetarian and special kid’s selections. On Fridays after Jum’a, the cafe offers special hot meal entrees for a suggested donation of $8. Some summer specials recently introduced include fruit smoothies, iced coffee, special cakes and bamboosas. In Ramadhan, the cafe offers iftar entrees for those wanting to break their fast.
The cafe is currently run by four staff members; they are Josephine Roy, Omar Khoshafa, Ali Al-Haziazi and Suhair Abu Alsaud. Future plans include expanding the current menu, expanding hours and securing a license to open to the public.
